Silicon Carbide (SiC) is a crystalline solid material with a molecular weight of 40.10 and specific gravity of 3.22. It is insoluble in water and alcohol. It sublimes and decomposes around 3250 K and can only be oxidized at very high temperatures. It possesses high thermal and electrical conductivity and exceptional hardness, and can be fabricated in complex shapes suitable for high temperature industrial applications.
