Sherwood number, Sh, is the dimensionless group for convective mass transfer in fluid flow. It is defined as

where P is mass transfer coefficient, δ diffusivity, and L the representative dimension (e.g., diameter for tubes).

Sherwood number represents the ratio between mass transfer by convection (β) and mass transfer by diffusion (δ/L). It is the mass transfer equivalent of Nusselt Number, Nu, and is a function of Reynolds Number, Re, and Schmidt Number, Sc.

In the special case when

where f0 is the Fanning Friction Factor.
