The movie demonstrate the influence of bluntness on turbulent flow and heating on the flat plate near a sharp wedge. The results are shown in terms of the Stanton number distribution measured by temperature-sensitive paint in the Ludwieg wind tunnel

Three-dimensional interference of oblique shock with boundary and high-entropy layers (M = 6, free boundary layer transition). Distribution of a nondimensional heat-transfer coefficient (Stanton number) over the plate surface near a 15 degree wedge depends on the plate leading edge bluntness radius r. Mach number M = 6, Reynolds number Re∞L = 20×106, total pressure Ро = 85 bar, total temperature То = 650 К, induced boundary layer transition.
