Ethane (C2H6) is a colorless and odorless gas that is slightly heavier than air. It occurs as a constituent of natural gas, which is the main raw material for its production. It forms an explosive and flammable mixture with air at low concentrations. It is used in the petrochemical industry as a feedstock for the production of ethylene and vinyl chloride.

Some of its physical characteristics are:

Normal boiling point: 184.52Critical density: 206.6 kg/m3

The values of thennodynainic properties are from Friend et al. (1991), transport properties from Hendl (1994) and Vesovic (1994) and surface tension from Beaton and Hewitt (1989).
