Overall mass-transfer coefficient

A quantity characterizing the intensity of mass transfer, equal to the ratio of the mass flux of a given component across a boundary (or permeable wall) to the difference of its mass fractions in the medium on the two sides of the boundary (wall).

Comment. A distinction is made between "local overall mass-transfer coefficient" and "average overall mass-transfer coefficient."
