where [Y] is a derived unit; [X₁], [X₂], ... , [X_n] are fundamental units of measurement; n₁, n₂, ... , n_m are real numbers defining the relationship between a derived unit and a fundamental unit and , consequently, between the numerical value of a secondary quantity and the numberical values of primary quantities.
